Belgian foreign minister Louis Michel said Tuesday that Iran is an important state and stressed his country's drive to develop ties with Tehran in all fields.
In an arrival statement, he told reporters that Belgium is strongly for fostering relations with this "important state at all economic, political, regional and international levels", according to Kuwait news agency.
He added that the "current Iran-EU dialogue aims at expanding relations" between both sides, and expressed optimism on signing a trade agreement between Iran and the European Union.
In the course of his two-day visit, the foreign minister is scheduled to meet with Iran’s President Khatami, Shoura council speaker Mahdi Karroubi.
In addition, he is to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharrazi. (albawaba.com)
