Belgian Ambassador affirmes the importance of the role Jordan can play

According to PETRA, Belgian Ambassador in Amman Michel Godfrind
affirmed the importance of the role Jordan can play on the level of
the region regarding the peace process and many outstanding issues.

On the occasion of the National day of his country, Godfriend said
that his country is working on enhancing and developing relations
with Jordan in the various fields especially that Belgium is part of
the European Union which enjoys distinguished relations with Jordan.

The Ambassador said that a Belgian delegation representing 10
companies has lately visited Jordan to look into investment and
cooperation opportunities in addition to the companies which work in
Iraq .

The Ambassador added that Belgium considers Jordan as its gate to
Iraq because of its stability, closeness to Iraq and its relations
with many countries.

Economic and Commercial Attach?' at the Embassy Laurent Pierart
said that Belgian exports to Jordan is $100m annually while the
Jordanian imports to Belgium are between $15-20m annually.
Regarding the political situation in the region, the Ambassador
said that his country was against the war in Iraq and against
participating in it since the beginning.

On the situation in Palestine, he said that his country was among
the first European countries to recognize the PLO and currently
supports the National Palestinian Authority. The Ambassador supported

the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip affirming the importance of
implementing the road map.
