Bahraini King Hamad will not take part in this weekend's Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Qatar. Instead, he will send his foreign minister, Mohammed bin Mubarak al-Khalifa, a Bahraini official said Tuesday.
"It is not necessary for the monarch to attend the work of the summit," the official said, cited by AFP.
"Bahrain will participate in the summit and will work for the success of its business," the official said, adding that ties between the two countries are "normal."
In November, Bahraini Information Minister Nabil al-Hamar denounced Qatari-based Al-Jazeera television, describing it the "diabolical (network) in the pay of Zionism." (Albawaba.com)
