Bahrain’s King Sheikh Hamad bin Eisa al-Khalifa on Sunday issued a directive to amend the nationalization and citizenship law so that Bahrainis could still retain their Bahraini citizenship after receiving citizenship by another GCC state.

Bahraini foreign minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Mubarak al-Khalifa, in the regular weekly ministerial session held on Sunday, presided by Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, said the GCC ministerial council had been informed of this inclination, according to KUNA.

He added that this was part of Manama’s efforts to provide better conditions for GCC citizens, as called on by the consultative summit in the Saudi city of Jeddah recently.

He further added that the GCC ministerial council, for its part, welcomed this move.

Sheikh Mohammad said the King ordered that Bahraini citizenship be retained even after pertaining citizenship of another GCC state.

With regards to GCC citizens wishing to obtain Bahraini citizenship, they, also, would not have to renounce their first citizenship. (albawaba.com)
