A Bahraini court on Tuesday adjourned its session on a Briton’s appeal against his manslaughter conviction, in order to give the prosecution time to examine a defense summary of the appeal, reported the Gulf Daily News.
Richard Mechan, 35, of Gloucester, England, was sentenced to 15 years in jail last July for stabbing to death US Marshall Earl Emmons in a fight at a housing compound in Bar neighborhood in Manama.
He is appealing the conviction, claiming self-defense, said the paper.
The high appeal court adjourned the hearing until next Tuesday after Mechan’s lawyer submitted a summary of the appeal.
Public prosecutor Hameed Habib requested time to review the documents, the paper said.
Emmons, a 31-year-old fibre optics engineer from Tucson, Arizona, worked in Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia’s eastern province when he was killed during a visit to Bahrain last January.
Mechan was working as an information technology consultant for Saudi Aramco at the time – Albawaba.com
