Bahrain’s National Committee for Support of Al Quds has launched a campaign to build an orphanage for Palestinian children in Occupied Jerusalem, reported the Gulf Daily News on Saturday.
The committee's secretary, Majid Al Nuaimi, said people in Bahrain were responding positively to the fundraising drive, which aims to raise BD1 million ($2.6 million).
"We are in the final stages of deciding where the orphanage will be constructed, how much it will cost and how many children it will accommodate once it is ready,” he said.
“All this information will be made public, so that people know what the project is all about and where the money they have donated will go,” he added.
A delegation from the committee traveled to Jerusalem to prepare a report on the Palestinian orphans and prepare for the orphanage project.
“It has returned with a complete picture of how Bahrain could help alleviate their sufferings,” said Nuaimi, who is also the president of Bahrain University.
The report and suggestions for carrying out the project, he said, was approved at a committee meeting presided over by Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa – Albawaba.com
