Bahrain plans to upgrade its entire fleet of F-16s with new software, in a $12.8 million contract awarded by the US Defense Department, said the Middle East Newsline (MENL).
The upgrade, which will be conducted by Lockheed Martin, would include both its current fleet of multi-role fighters as well as those being ordered from the United States.
Officials were quoted by MENL as saying that “the upgrade would provide software to enable interface of two systems aboard the jet.”
These are the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile and the Advanced Identity Friend and Foe system.
A Pentagon statement said the work will be completed by 2003.
