Bahrain will examine in more detail the assets and property held in the country by foreigners who apply for permanent residence, in line with the government’s efforts to encourage investment, reported the Gulf Daily News on Monday.

Deputy Emir Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa asked the interior and cabinet affairs ministries to prepare a detailed study on the subject while chairing Sunday’s cabinet session.

The cabinet also discussed plans to expand Bahrain's higher education facilities and to encourage the private sector to invest more heavily in the educational field, said the paper.

Members then approved three private sectors projects - the Gulf College University, the College University and the Birla Technology Institute.

The cabinet also agreed to a proposal by Education Minister Mohammed Al Ghatam to affiliate the Bahrain University teaching staff council with the university's board of trustees, it added – Albawaba.com
