The publications directorate in Bahrain has launched a new crackdown on companies that violate intellectual property rights, according to the official Emirati news agency, WAM.
The agency quoted an official as saying that a plan had been drawn up to ensure intellectual and literary products, including computer software, were used legally. He added that a special panel had been formed to launch an awareness campaign targeting shop owners and computer users.
"The aim is to enhance their commitment to the rules and regulations that govern intellectual property rights and persuade them to stop using pirated products," he said.
Similar campaigns are underway in the Gulf states. In the UAE, a video pirate was this month sentenced to three years in jail – Albawaba.com
