Bahrain: Citizens elect new parliament

Bahraini citizens voting Saturday to elect a new parliament and five municipal councils. They went to the polls for the second time in four years. A total of 295,686 Bahrainis are eligible to vote in the elections, which will put 40 MPs and 40 councillors into their constituency seats.

 

Voting took place at 50 polling stations around the kingdom, 40 of them at main constituency centres, plus 10 open stations, where people may vote regardless of which constituency they are from.

 

A total of 206 candidates were standing for parliament and 165 for the municipal councils.

 

Early elections have already been held in 22 embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions around the world.
