Bahrain on Sunday awarded French engineering group, Alstom Power, a $300.4 million (BD113.5 million) contract to build a 700MW power station at Hidd city, reported the Gulf Daily News.
The contract, approved at Sunday’s cabinet session, is for the completion of the second phase of the Hidd electricity and water production plant, it added.
It will be the biggest plant of its kind in Bahrain.
Bahrain awarded ABB and Fisa Italimpianti of Italy a $458 million (BD173 million) deal in 1997 to build the first phase of the Hidd plant, which produces 280MW of electricity and 30 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
In June, a finance ministry official said Bahrain was seeking $345 million (BD130 million) in loans to finance the expansion of the Hidd project – Albawaba.com
