Bahrain Airport Traffic Sets a Record

Bahrain’s international airport has recorded a healthy growth of 17.6 percent in passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2001 compared with the same period last year, serving 1,467,533 passengers, Bahrain Tribune reported Thursday. 

A total of 578,021 passengers visited Bahrain, registering an increase of 11.8 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period last year, while the number of the traveler who left Bahrain during the same period was 574,779, up 1.2 percent. 

According to the paper, the biggest jump is in the number of transit passengers, which reached 314,733, a 43.8 percent leap over figures for first quarter last year. 

Minister of Transportation, Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, told the daily that “the upward swing is expected to grow further the year-end, cementing the airports reputation as one of the most efficient in the region.” – Albawaba.com
