Baghdad: At least 21 killed, some 150 wounded in car blast, clashes

A suicide bomber activated a car bomb in a commercial district in Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least six people and wounding 54, authorities said. Bloodied bodies, shattered glass and debris littered the street in the Baghdad neighborhood of Al-Jamiyah, The AP reported. Residents and relief workers collected human remains and put them into plastic bags.  

 

At least 13 cars were totally destroyed, officials at the scene of the blast said.  

 

Meanwhile, U.S. aircraft and tanks attacked bombed Baghdad's Sadr City as clashes erupted early Wednesday in, killing 15 people and wounding 92 others, hospital officials said.  

 

The fighting came as U.S. and Iraqi forces searched for weapons caches in this Shiite stronghold.  

 

One American helicopter was hit by groundfire but managed to return to its base, and one tank was disabled by a roadside bomb.  

 

Meanwhile, South Korea announced it had completed the deployment of 2,800 soldiers in Iraq and added that 800 more troops would be dispatched in November. (albawaba.com)
