On Wednesday, Baghdad denied it had opened fire on two Kuwaiti coastguard ships in northern Gulf waters.
"Such an incident never happened," said a foreign ministry spokesman, quoted by the Iraq News Agency.
Kuwait's interior ministry said in a statement Tuesday that "an Iraqi boat opened fire on two Kuwaiti coastguard boats near Warba," 70 kilometers north of Kuwait City.
On Wednesday, Al-Rai Al-Aam reported that a US serviceman and two Kuwaiti coastguards were injured when the Kuwaiti vessels collided after the Iraqi ship opened fire on them.
The Pentagon, for its part, late Tuesday denied that Kuwaiti vessels were fired upon, however acknowledged that US troops had been aboard. (Albawaba.com)
