Australia plans to recruit 300 new special forces troops to boost its fight against terrorism at home and abroad, the government said Thursday.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard stated he would create a new commando company and appoint a special forces commander to supervise counterterrorism operations.

"The new initiative will further increase Australia's ability to use non-conventional war-fighting means to respond to the threat of terrorism," Howard said in a statement, according to AP. (Albawaba.com)
