Attack on a funeral in Pakistan kills at 3 police officers

ALBAWABA - Three police officers were killed in a militant attack on a funeral held for a police official in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which was later claimed by the local Taliban chapter.

According to the provincial Minister of Health of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakhtoon Yar Khan, militants besieged the service which was taking place in Bannu police headquarters, as officers were preparing to bury an official who was shot dead on Sunday.

"In the exchange of fire at the gate, three militants and three policemen were killed. two or three militants had infiltrated the base and intense gunfire is ongoing," Yar Khan told AFP.

In a statement, the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred just 40 kilometers from the Afghan border.

Two Chinese engineers were killed in a blast in southern Karachi last week, while 20 coal miners were shot by heavily armed militants in southwestern Balochistan Friday.
