Daughter of the famous Syrian singer/songwriter Moustafa Nasri. Assalah was brought up in a highly musical home environment. It was not long before the talented youngster went on to launch a career of her own.
Assalah began performing in concert with her father in her early childhood. The young prodigy soon went on to make her professional television début at the tender age of eight.
When her father died, Assalah called a halt to her singing career for a full three years. But shortly after her father’s death she married and her new husband, Ayman Al Zahbi, finally persuaded her to resume her singing career.
Assalah staged a remarkable comeback, taking part in a music program broadcast on Syrian Television.
Assalah then moved to Cairo where she went on to work with a number of renowned Egyptian composers such as Sayed Mekkawi, Mohamed El Mougui and Helmi Baker. But it was Mohamed Sultan’s song "Samehtak kétir" (I’ve Forgiven You Many Times), which would really rocket Assalah to fame.
Assalah is a great fan of classical Arab music, particularly the genre known as tarab (so called because it provokes great tarab or emotion in the listener).
The singer also confesses to liking more modern, popular music - as long as it does not break the rules of traditional classical song entirely.
