An anonymous armed robber broke into an exchange company in the Egyptian City of Tanta on Friday, shot and seriously injured an employee before fleeing with the $10,000 he found in the safe, according to the Cairo-based daily Al Gomhuria.

Initial investigations carried out by the police revealed that the criminal took advantage of the fact that the employee was alone to break into the premises and shoot him using a pistol with a silencer.

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid has said that his government was planning to acquire state-of-the-art equipment to counter crimes. Ebeid indicated that crimes in modern time are highly sophisticated, a fact that requires the security agencies to be watchful and to use up-to-date technology so as to be able to counter all types of crimes, especially armed robberies targeting banks.

The Egyptian premier statement came as he inaugurated the second international security technology fair in Cairo earlier in the year, in which 18 foreign countries and 48 corporations took part. The fair featured the most advanced security equipment and accessories in the world -- Albawaba.com
