ARAMEX (DFM: ARMX), the total transportation solutions provider, today announced the launch of the “ARAMEX Center of Excellence for Logistics” within the German Jordan University (GJU). Dr. Labib Al Khadra, Dean of the German Jordan University, and Iyad Kamal, ARAMEX’s Vice President for Logistics & Ground Services, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Amman to launch the new education and training Centre of Excellence.
The Centre will play a key role in shaping the University’s logistics and transportation-related programmes and will act as conduit for technical, academic and industrial information exchange about the sector. Overall, it will encourage the development of the industry in the entire region and contribute to increasing expertise and raising standards.
A crucial input from the Centre will see it act as a filter to ensure the content of the University’s courses is in line with local and regional business requirements. The new training courses that will be offered as a result of this initiative will ensure that logistics professionals in the region will be in tune with the latest techniques and processes and be able to deliver services to the highest international standards.
Iyad Kamal, ARAMEX Vice President for Logistics and Ground Services said: “ARAMEX has participated in raising and setting standards throughout the industry since its inception 25 years ago. This initiative will lead to closer cooperation between the private sector and teaching and training institutions and will encourage a better match between the skills and knowledge graduates acquire and the demands of the regional and international sector.
“ARAMEX is fully committed to the development of the capacities of the students and the collaboration with the GJU will help them enter the working environment. The logistics sector offer essential support to businesses in the region and we have to ensure it is able to operate at its optimum.”
As the regional economies prosper and businesses become more and more open to implementing global best practices, ARAMEX is progressively investing more in the infrastructural and knowledge capacities. Its ongoing commitment to excellence in the logistics sector has earned it impressive businesses as well as international and regional awards namely the Middle East logistics Achievement award.
Dr. Labib Al Khadra, Dean of the GJU, added: “Establishing the Centre is a pioneering move that will lead to excellence and a better fit between the education system and the private sector. Our graduates will be better equipped to enter work and to begin to make an immediate contribution.
“Ultimately, this initiative will help to upgrade the skills levels in the industry and the quality of the services offered throughout the sector. This is an important step and ARAMEX has to be congratulated for taking the initiative and making it happen.
“The next step will be to build on what has been put in place and ensure that our objectives are met and the relationship between training and the industry is increasingly mutually beneficial.”
Through this initiative ARAMEX’s experts and the GJU academic staff will work closely to create the guidelines and structure of the Excellence Centre. In fact, ARAMEX’s own logistics staff will be required to complete the Centre’s training courses. There are plans for the Centre to extend its role and become the key logistics education and training organization in the MENA region.
