Over 150 delegates of Arab women's federations flew over to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Sunday for a day-trip aimed to symbolize the solidarity expressed by a conference in Beirut in light of US threats of military action, organizers stated.
A number of Swedish and Yugoslav activists and politicians accompanied the delegates, who were due to meet with Iraqi officials and various women's groups during their lightning visit to Baghdad, according to AFP.
The flight came a day following the end of the two-day Arab Women's Conference organized by the Lebanese Women’s Council (LWC). In a final statement issued on Sunday, participants denounced "aggressive US policies against Iraq of any kind."
They called for the "adoption of a clear and united Arab position supporting the Palestinian intifada and denouncing the United States' boundless bias towards the Israeli enemy."
Moreover, they pledged to stage demonstrations and sit-ins outside United Nations offices throughout the world and launch a campaign for the "boycott of US goods and all products made by international companies that support the Zionist enemy." (Albawaba.com)
