Iraq will start in the next couple of days to return the national archives of Kuwait that it stole during its seven-month occupation of the emirate between 1990 and 1991, the Arab League said Monday.

The Cairo-based 22-member league said in a statement that it has set up a delegation that would team up with another one from the United Nations in a committee "to receive the Kuwaiti national archives from Iraq."

The joint Arab League-UN committee "will start working in mid-October and finish its task in mid-December," the statement added, according to AFP.

"In virtue of the agreed procedure, the operation of receiving and handing over the archives will be conducted in point near the Iraq-Kuwait border," said the statement, without detailing the exact location. The three-member team of the Arab League is headed by an Egyptian, Mohamed Serri.
