Amir Khan Muttaqi to take over as deputy PM in Afghanistan

ALBAWABA - According to local Afghani media, acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will temporarily assume the duties of deputy prime minister.

Chief spokesperson of Taliban Zabihullah Mujahid told TOLO news that Muttaqi will temporarily take over for Political Deputy Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir due to his illness.

Mujahid released an official statement announcing the news. the statement reads: "Following up on domestic and foreign policy have been entrusted to the minister of foreign affairs, and the head of the political deputy PM's office should carry out the other work and activities,". 

Head of the media directorate of the political deputy of the prime minister, Hassan Haqyar, said: "We hope that he will return to his duties in the coming days. He participated in consultations and gave advice to the government, but he did not visit his office because the physicians had urged him to take a rest,". 

It has been almost three months that the political deputy of the Prime Minister has not been present in meetings and visits with officials from other countries, TOLO news reported. 

Analysts told TOLO news urged that the current government provide an explanation for the officials' attendance and absence, as the presence of main politicians is crucial in state meetings. 

Kamran Aman, a political analyst, said "I hope the 'Islamic Emirate' shares with the nation every issue, including changes and meetings, travel abroad and inside ... so that some propaganda and worries will be removed,".

Muttaqi has initiated his duties as acting deputy prime minister conducting meetings with various factions of the community. He met with the Turkmenistan ambassador to Kabul Khawaja Awadov.

Muttaqi and Awadov discussed strengthening ties between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, mainly on economic and major infrastructure projects, said the Ministry in a statement.
