Forty-three soldiers were killed and 25 seriously wounded in two weekend attacks by Islamic militants in Algeria, an Algerian newspaper reported in on Sunday.
The bloodiest attack took place Saturday night in Theniet El Abed, a town south of the city of Biskra, 450 kilometers southeast of Algiers, the capital, according to Le Matin newspaper.
The newspaper quoted hospital officials as saying that 43 soldiers were killed and 19 were seriously wounded when Islamic militants exploded devices laden with highly explosive gas as the soldiers passed through the town in a convoy.
In another attack, six troops were seriously wounded when their convoy was ambushed in Lakhdaria, some 90 kilometers east of Algiers. (Albawaba.com)
