An Egyptian man repeatedly hit his wife in the head with an iron bar because he thought she had put rat poison in his breakfast, reported the weekly Middle East Times.

Khalaf Tantawi, 62, was quoted as saying that he realized his wife, Nisma Muhammad, 54, had been trying to poison him when he noticed green powder falling out of his “fool (bean paste) sandwich.”

He became so enraged that he hit her in the head with the iron bar and then called for an ambulance.

When the couple got to hospital, Nisma, who had suffered a concussion, had to have stitches for her head wounds - and Tantawi had his stomach pumped.

Tantawi said "I don't want to be poisoned again and don't want to live with her anymore, but I hope I didn't seriously injure her."

Police are investigating the incident, said the weekly, but no charges have yet been made – Albawaba.com
