ALBAWABA - Following the ousting of Bashar Assad, the former Syrian president, reports of a plane allegedly carrying the ousted president made its way northwest and then turned near the city of Homs and rapidly decreased its altitude before disappearing, Axios reported.

Axios added, citing a US official, that Assad arrived at a Russian military base in Syria around midnight in preparation for him to flee to Moscow.

This news comes as social media videos showed Syrian soldiers abandoning their positions in Damascus, removing their uniforms, and changing into civilian clothes.

Al Jazeera and other Arab television networks broadcast footage of hundreds of people cheering and celebrating the Assad regime's downfall in Damascus' largest square.
