A soldier was killed in an attack, Wednesday in the Jijel region, 330 km to the east of Algiers, according to local Algerian press sources. An Algerian army detachment was surprised by a simultaneous explosion of two bombs in the mountainous region of Jijel. Another three soldiers were injured.
The Salafist group known as the GSPC, considered the principal opposition group of Algeria, is thought to be the instigator of this attack. Following efforts by the Algerian government, most of the Salafist militants have been driven out of the country and only remain in isolated rural regions.
