Algerian journalist awarded

Reporters Without Borders, a media outlet and a defender of press freedom, have awarded Fondation de France Prize to an Algerian journalist: In the category of journalists who have shown devotion to freedom of information through their work, through taking a stand or by their attitude the winner was Hafnaoui Ghoul. This Algerian journalist serves as a provincial correspondent of the daily paper El Youm and head of the regional office of the Algerian Human Rights League (LADDH).

 

According to RSF, Ghoul was imprisoned for six months for alleged libel after exposing corruption and abuses by local officials. He was conditionally released on 25 November this year.
