Algerian Hotels to be Privatized ‘Soon’

Thousands of Algerian workers are concerned about their future in the tourism sector, after the government has shown its willingness to privatize some hotels, reported El Khabar daily on Sunday. 

Citing official sources, the paper said that eleven hotels are in the list, and could be privatized as soon as possible. It added that Saudi investors are very interested in buying some of these hotels. 

In early January, Algiers announced that 121 corporations were targeted for privatization over the next three years as from the year 2001. 

Hamid Tammar, Algerian Minister of Participation and Reforms Coordination, told the press that forty two of the companies to be privatized are subsidiaries of public holding companies and other 79 are subsidiaries of the State holding companies operating in the fields of services, building materials, food industry. 

He added that the remaining 63 companies would be partially privatized – Albawaba.com
