The commencement of the French Film Festival week in Algeria marked the end of a ten year cultural rift between the two countries.
According to the Kuwaiti KUNA news agency, the festival is a collaboration between French/Algerian director Alexander Arkadi and the French Union for International Films.
The festival aims at rejuvenating good relations between the two culturally rich countries.
Algerian President Abdul Aziz Boutelfika, who opened the festival, commenced its activities with the sequel to the comedy Taxi.
Furthermore, on the margins of the festival, other collaborations are taking place.
The Algerian Film Museum and various French Film Institutes are trying to finalize means to show 14 French films in Algerian movie theaters, followed by lectures from Algerian or French stars.
Meanwhile, festival organizers announced that two artists, one Algerian and one French, would be honored for their great work in the field, however, no names were mentioned.
Those who attended include French actress Moray Dak, Al-Shab Fudeel and Al Safi Butla.
Another sign of goodwill came from the French Television channel, Canal Orizon, who sponsored the event.
The movies to be shown in the festival include Atfal El Qarn (Children of the Century), directed by Diane Keiser, Thamal Al Wurud (Drunk Flowers) by Kamil Salih and Tahiya Ya Ibn El Am (Hello Cousin) by Mirzak Alloush – Albawaba.com.
