At least three Algerian soldiers and their four auxiliaries were killed by roadside bombs Sunday, according to Agence France Presse.
The defense ministry told AFP that the bombs exploded inthe Sidi Bel Abbes region located approximately 440 kilometers (275 miles) from Algiers.
Sunday's attack represents the deadliest of its kind since April when Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) killed 11 soldiers in the Kabylie region.
Kabylie represents an AQIM stronghold area, but Algiers has cracked down significantly on Islamists' attacks since the country's civil war in the 1990s.
It is not clear yet if Sunday's attack was an AQIM operation as well.
According to Algeria's military, 56 Islamists have been killed in clashes with the army since the start of this year.
