Algerians went out into the street to protest against the rise in the price of heating and cooking fuels. The protestors were particularly bitter because the increases came in the cold season, according to the Algerian opposition news source, Liberte Algerie. Some 30 protestors were arrested at Birine, 130 km to the north east of Djelfa. During the commotion, 10 policemen were wounded and three severely. There are many rumours as to why fuel prices have been rising and some have blamed market manipulators.
