Algeria Launches National Plan to Develop Aquaculture

Algeria launched on Sunday in Tipasa its first aquaculture operation by stocking the reservoir of the Boukourdane dam with fish, Algeria’s official news agency reported. 

According to the agency, 300,000 fingerlings of a species of royal carp were placed in the reservoir, which is situated in the commune of Sidi-Amar. 

The little fish joined 5,000 already partof a pilot project. 

This stocking operation will carry on Wednesday with the introduction of 1 million of similar fish of many varieties, it added. 

Officials were quoted by the agency as saying that the operation would be carried out in 10 provinces and would involve 16 sites and water plans throughout Algeria – Albawaba.com
