Algeria registered a rise in its imports, and a decline in exports during the first quarter of 2001, compared to the same period of the year before, according to Algeria News Agency (APS).

Citing official figures, the exporting figures reached $5,55 billion, a drop of 4.70 percent over the same period in 2000, while imports shot up by 5.03 percent to $2,401 billion, the agency said.

Algeria’s National Center of Computing and Statistics (CNIS) was quoted by the APS as reporting that most of the imported goods were mainly destined for industrial and agricultural purposes – Albawaba.com
