French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel said Thursday it signed a contract with Egypt-based Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E. to provide equipment to build a mobile communications network in Algeria, reported Dallas Business Journal.
The deal is worth about 420 million Euros (US$374.3 million) and is the first execution of an agreement between the two companies.
According to the report, network installation of the Global System for Mobile communications network will start in October. When completed, it will be the largest capacity mobile communications network in Algeria. The network will enable Orascom Telecom to offer enhanced mobile data services to about 3 million customers.
