Dubai's al-Arabiya TV channel has broadcast an audiotaped message purportedly from al-Qaeda's No. 2.
The voice said to be of Ayman al-Zawahiri, accused the United States of trying to replace Arab governments under the guise of seeking democratic reforms in the Middle East.
The truth of what it is seeking is to replace the current regimes with new regimes, the voice stated. "The human rights they are advocating are the rights of the criminal to the humiliation of the Muslim."
"The Americans will not give us democracy and freedom. Democracy and freedom should come from within us, from our own souls, and our children and young generation will benefit from it." (Albawaba.com)
