A Yemeni suspected of being a member in Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network was killed when a grenade he was trying to throw at police blasted, a Yemeni official said.
"Samir Ahmed Mohamed Al-Hada, aged 25, suspected of belonging to al-Qaeda and the object of an arrest warrant for his questioning in Yemen, was killed in a neighborhood of Sanaa following a chase by security forces," a police official said, quoted by Yemen’s SABA news agency.
Hada was "killed when a grenade that he was trying to throw at police who were surrounding him" exploded, said the police official.
"Authorities had been watching the suspect for some time before trying to arrest him when he attempted to hide" in the Mazbah neighbourhood, in the northwest of the capital, he said.
He noted that Hada had "visited Afghanistan where he trained to carry out acts of terrorism" and was suspected of "carrying out terrorist acts," without specifying whether the attacks were carried out inside Yemen or in other countries.
Hada was from the village of Mithali, in Dhamar province, located about 100 kilometers south of the capital city of Sanna, he conveyed.
He was carrying various identity cards at the time of his death, apparently to "deceive Yemeni authorities," the Yemeni sources disclosed. (Albawaba.com)
