Agility, a leading provider of supply chain solutions, has won Kuwait’s first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award for the services sector. Presented at the Sheikha Salwa Al-Sabah Ballroom on January 22nd, the ceremony was held under the auspices of the Honorable Speaker of Kuwait’s National Assembly, Jassem Mohammed Al Kharafi.
The award recognizes Agility’s commitment to social responsibility in local, regional and international communities. In the last year alone, Agility has initiated 55 community projects in 30 countries, with the participation of almost 10 percent of its global workforce, which in turn has helped make a difference to the lives of over 105,000 people on the ground.
In Kuwait, Agility has focused on two main areas: the environment and youth. Agility has run an ongoing environmental awareness campaign at the company throughout 2007. Projects include initiating a company-wide recycling program with affiliate Metal Recycling Company (MRC), inviting high-profile speakers like the former President of Costa Rica to Agility offices to educate employees about global warming, and organizing beach clean-ups in which employees collected hundreds of bags of trash under the guidance of the Environmental Public Authority (EPA).
Agility’s Kuwait office also took an active hand in helping Kuwaiti youth. Agility funded the Lothan Youth Achievement Center (LOYAC) for the fourth year in a row, helping to ensure that Kuwaiti youth have access to training and development opportunities. Agility also funds Injaz (Junior Achievement Worldwide), with Agility employees additionally mentoring 100 teenagers in public and private schools in hands-on business skills. Agility also contributed KD 30,000 to Mentor Arabia to launch a program to teach school children life skills that will help them lead a drug-free life.
Internationally, Agility has been active in the area of humanitarian logistics. Agility delivered critical life support materials to 500 displaced families in Iraq with the International Medical Corps, financed a primary health care center to serve 13,000 refugees in Darfur, Sudan, and helped transport enough food to feed 43,000 people in Indonesia for the World Food Program after serious flooding in Jakarta, Indonesia. Most recently, Agility worked with the local government in Bangladesh to procure and transport food and bottled water after a major cyclone devastated the country in November, reaching over 1,500 people.
