ALBAWABA - A  new video was released by the Popular Forces militia in the Gaza Strip, which worked side by side with the Israeli Army during the war against Hamas, showing its new chief after the killing of its former leader, Yasser Abu Shabab, last Thursday.

On Dec. 4, Israeli and Palestinian media confirmed that militia leader Yasser Abu Shabab was killed at the hands of armed men in the Gaza Strip. According to the media, the Palestinian militia leader died of his wounds shortly before arrival at a hospital in Beersheba, Israel.

Some sources reportedly said that Abu Shabab was killed at the hands of a Hamas fighter; however, the Palestinian group has not made any announcement regarding the killing of the militia leader.

Who is Yasser Abu Shabab?

Yasser Abu Shabab is a Bedouin tribal leader based in the Israeli-held zone of Gaza. He led a group that was backed by Israel in their fight against Hamas.

According to The Guardian, Yasser was the commander of the Popular Forces, the biggest and best-armed of several militias in Gaza. The group first emerged during the later stages of the two-year war.

The group was found as part of Israel's strategy of arming proxies to degrade Hamas and control the population.
