Afghani President Hamid Karzai is expected to visit Tehran on Wednesday, where he will sign a trilateral agreement with Iran and Uzbekistan on transit cooperation, the Afghan News Agency ANA reported Monday.
According to the agency, Afghani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Omar Samad, speaking to reporters in Kabul, said Karzai would be arriving in the Iranian capital on Wednesday upon an official invitation extended by Iranian President Khatami.
He said representatives of Iran, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have agreed to sign a draft accord on building a road from Iran to Central Asia via Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. These road links would help connect Central Asia to the Middle East and the Gulf through Afghanistan and Iran, he added.
The Afghan President is expected to return on Saturday, the agency concluded. (Albawaba.com)
