ALBAWABA - Israeli Police announced earlier arresting seven Israelis of Azerbaijani origin amid suspicion of spying for Iran and gathering information.
This group, which is accused of carrying out more than 600 operations for Iran, is charged with obtaining intelligence on critical military and infrastructural locations as well as locating possible human targets.
The seven accused are Jewish Israelis of Azeri descent, according to the prosecution, and they gathered intelligence on locations such as Glilot Base, Ramat David Airbase, and Nevatim Airbase.
"Seven Jewish Israeli citizens: Aziz Nesnov, Alexander Sidikov, Yigal Nissan, Vyacheslav Goshin, Yevgeny Yuva, and two minors, residents of Haifa and the North, were arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran, in a joint security operation between the Shin Bet, the police’s Lahav 433 unit, and the IDF’s Information Security Division," The Israeli Police report reads.
The accused allegedly carried out orders obtained through middlemen, and the organization supplied comprehensive information on these websites.
The Israel Police revealed that the group was driven by financial gain, with compensation dependent on the amount of danger involved in each mission. Payments were allegedly made via Russian middlemen who flew to Israel.
Investigators also confiscated a large number of papers during the operation, which has kept the suspects in detention for over 35 days.
Israeli officials are likely to formally charge the individuals before the end of the week. Israeli police sources indicated that the group's activities were initially discovered roughly two years ago.
The accused are said to have received hundreds of thousands of shekels for their espionage work.
