ALBAWABA - According to local authorities, six bodies were found in what appears to be a case of poisoning in the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in Thailand's capital Bangkok.

A hotel worker found the bodies of three women and three men on the fifth floor of the hotel late Tuesday. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, the victims were Vietnamese, and two had American citizenship.

The police believe that the bodies had been dead for at least 24 hours before being found by the hotel worker. The door was locked on the inside, however, the worker was able to enter the room from another door.

The police held a news conference earlier on Wednesday, revealing that traces of cyanide were found on the mugs and flasks in the hotel room. One of the dead was believed to be behind the poisoning.

Noppasil Poonsawas, deputy commander of investigations at Bangkok's Metropolitan Police Bureau stated: "We would like to confirm that one of the six dead caused this incident using cyanide,".

Thiti Saengsawang, the chief of Bangkok's Metropolitan Police, said the group of three males and three women checked into the hotel at different times after arriving on Saturday and Sunday.

They booked separate rooms, four on the seventh level and one on the fifth floor. Cleaning personnel found the six deaths on Tuesday afternoon, all in the fifth-floor room, after the visitors failed to check out on time.

There was no evidence of a robbery or struggle. The room was locked from within. Plates of uneaten food from room service were left on the table. Some were still plastic-wrapped.
