58,000 tons of dates in Kebili for the 2005 harvest

The harvest of dates in Kebili for 2005 is expected to be around 58,000 tons. Kebili with a total area of 2.2 million hectares and the largest aquifer in Tunisia contributes to more than 55% of the date production in the country.  In 2004, some 31,000 tons of the production in Kebili were exported mostly to European countries, making an income of 78 million dinars. La Presse reports that date exports in Tunisia amounted during season 2004/2005 to 41,600 tons making an income of 113 million dinars.
