Parliamentary sources in Algeria have revealed that more than 5000 cars are being held in Algiers's port by the customs department, which bans the licensing of the vehicles, reported Al Nassr Arabic daily.
According to the law, cars not older than three years are eligible for a plate number, but MPs say that the banned cars do fall under this category. However, they expect that some major car importers in the country are pressing for the procedure to protect their interests.
