The International Union of Lawyers (UIA) ended its 49th Congress, which took place from 31 August to 4 September in Fez and hosted 1100 participants from 80 countries. According to Driss Chater, President of the Fez Congress, the event "was a real success" in the sense that it gathered lawyers from all round the world to discuss current issues such as formation of an international code of ethics and the effects of the digital world on a citizen's individual liberties and its implications for the legal system. The next congress of the international Union of lawyers (UIA) will be held from October 31 until November 4, 2006 in El Salvador
