ALBAWABA -According to Russia's human rights commissioner, around 30,415 people, including over 8,000 children, have been evacuated from territories bordering Ukraine as a result of shelling and assaults.
The commissioner, Tatyana Moskalkova, told Argumenty I Fakty in an interview that the evacuees had been housed in roughly 1,000 temporary lodging locations around Russia.
Ukraine, which has been subjected to an invasion by Russia since February 2022, has responded with shelling and other assaults on Russia's border areas, with the military claiming the strikes target infrastructure critical to Moscow's war effort.
Ukrainian soldiers invaded the Kursk area in August, seizing control of dozens of regions and maintaining the majority of positions ever since.
Moskalkova stated that she has received requests for more than 1,000 Russian residents from Kursk, whose whereabouts are unknown and who are believed to have been abducted by Ukrainian forces. Reuters was unable to independently verify Moskalkova's reports, while Kyiv made no immediate comments.
