Some 300 Palestinian captives in the Israeli jail of Ashkelon on Monday resumed their open-ended hunger strike after suspending it for two days.
The captives decided to proceed in their hunger strike after the Israeli prisons authority backpedaled on the deal struck with the strikers a couple of days ago, press reports indicated.
Prisoners said that the prisons authority had also refused to allow representatives to brief prisoners in other jails on content of the agreement.
Senior Israeli officers in a meeting with those representatives on Friday agreed to a number of important demands but backed off the following day.
In a related development, Palestinians in Ramallah Monday launched a comprehensive strike in solidarity with the internees’ hunger strike.
In the same context, Jerusalemites also went on a general strike in protest over the living conditions the prisoners were experiencing at the hands of Israeli jailers. (albawaba.com)
