For a period of two months from December 15, victims of grave human rights violations in Morocco, from the years 1956 to 1999, will tell their stories on two television stations – TVM and 2M, according to the news source La Vie Economique. There will also be radio broadcasts on the subject.

This marks a break of a long-standing taboo and, according to www.casafree.com marks the end of a taboo in Moroccan society. This initiative is part of a wider reconciliation process for Moroccan society.

The showing are not without controversy, especially because some claim that even today, Morocco’s human rights record is not perfect, even if the iron rule of the present king’s father is a thing of the past. The exact number of those who were tortured and imprisoned for political reasons under the reign of the former king is huge.
