Nearly 13,000 homes and businesses were still without power in the south of France on Sunday after heavy snow cut electricity supplies, but authorities were hoping to reconnect most of them during the day.
France's electricity supplier EDF was aiming to have linked 16,000 of the total 20,000 downed lines back to the grid by late Sunday, four days after flurries of snow wreaked havoc in the southeastern corner of France.
Some 4,000 supplies were reconnected early on Sunday, leaving an army of 1,600 engineers battling to restore supplies to those still cut off before the end of the day – MARSEILLE (AFP)
