ALBAWABA - 120 people were injured, at least, in Mexico on Saturday during a demonstration in the streets of the city. The protests took place against the recent policies of President Claudia Sheinbaum's government.
Notably, most of the injuries were among police officers, as the protest was largely driven by “Generation Z” and organized in advance through social media platforms.
According to AFP, the demonstration was sparked by anger over drug gang violence and Sheinbaum’s security policies.
It is worth noting that Sheinbaum, who took office in October 2024, enjoyed a popularity rating of over 70% during her first year. However, she is now facing growing criticism over her security policies following a series of assassinations, the most recent occurring in the state of Michoacán.
As a result of the protests, 100 police officers were injured—40 of whom required hospital treatment for bruises and cuts—while 20 protesters were also hurt.
Authorities arrested 20 individuals on charges including theft and assault, among them a suspect accused of attacking a journalist.
