ALBAWABA - Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has leveled sharp criticism at the administration of Joe Biden, saying she was sidelined and weighed down with politically difficult agendas throughout her time in office.
In newly released excerpts from her forthcoming memoir, Harris accused Biden’s staff of offering little protection against Republican attacks and conservative media scrutiny.
Harris reignited debate over Biden’s controversial decision to pursue reelection against Donald Trump, revealing that she and others close to Biden believed he should have withdrawn much earlier, particularly given his age. She added that the White House actively undermined her presidential ambitions, according to a report by Politico.
Her memoir outlines deep frustration with Biden’s decision-making process and the influence of his advisers, frustrations the Biden White House sought to downplay at the time. Harris argued that as Biden’s approval ratings fell, her own rising popularity in the polls was seen as a threat by his team, which sought to limit her political visibility.
Election Defeat and “107 Days”
Biden formally ended his reelection campaign in July 2024, just 28 days after what was described as a disastrous debate performance against Trump. Harris’s book, titled “107 Days,” recounts the intense three-and-a-half months that followed Biden’s exit, culminating in Trump’s return to the White House.
Harris’s campaign spent $1.5 billion in the final 15 weeks before Election Day, traveling nationwide to energize Democrats and court moderates along with conservatives disillusioned with Trump. Despite these efforts, she secured only 226 electoral votes.
A Bitter Reflection
In her memoir, Harris writes that Biden’s team resented the contrast when polls indicated she was gaining popularity as Biden’s numbers collapsed. She paints a portrait of a campaign hampered not only by Trump’s momentum but also by the lack of unified support from within her own party’s leadership.
